Position Purpose/Summary 

The Senior Copywriter, Strategy is responsible for contributing to the development and execution of strategic, concept-driven messaging that delivers on our clients’ business objectives. This role focuses on big-picture strategy with some copywriting execution. We’re looking for a blend of visionary thinking, creative strategy and exceptional writing that shapes bold ideas to inspire audiences and win new opportunities. 

The ideal candidate is someone with a strong strategic mindset and a portfolio that showcases breakthrough concepts, storytelling excellence, and high-level campaign development across various platforms, including digital, social, video and presentations. Beyond delivering compelling and persuasive copy, the Senior Copywriter, Strategy will play a pivotal role in strategy development, brainstorming and ideation. As a creative strategist and conceptor, you will collaborate with teams across the agency — offering strategic insights, sparking inspiration, and pushing the creative envelope. 

Reports to: Associate Creative Director – Copywriting 

Responsibilities  

  • Brand Strategy and Creative Concepting (75%): Develop big-picture creative concepts for clients, new business pitches, RFP responses and presentations that align with client needs and meet or exceed business goals. This includes conducting brand audits and competitive research that keeps our clients ahead of the curve and identifying opportunities for differentiation. By spearheading research, you’ll identify human-centric themes and insights that inform strategic direction and drive concept development. Throughout the process, you’ll develop and protect creative strategies from conception through execution, ensuring the creative strategy is fully realized in the final deliverable.  
  • Executional Copywriting Skills (25%): Bring brand narratives to life seamlessly across traditional and digital mediums, delivering compelling, audience-driven work. In doing so, you’ll translate complex ideas into clear, accessible and persuasive messaging throughout all stages of the marketing funnel. Must have the ability to craft high-level copy across a variety of deliverables, including digital, social, presentations, video and audio scripts, programmatic ads, paid social and more. Lead and execute copy development for full 360 ad campaigns, branding projects and guerrilla marketing efforts, ensuring messaging remains relevant, impactful and aligned with strategic goals. 
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate closely with directors, strategists, account managers, project management and other agency teams to ensure cohesive and impactful outcomes. Work with cross-functional teams to shape compelling narratives, ideas and messaging strategies that resonate with target audiences. Must serve as a creative strategist and concept partner for all team members, offering thought leadership and collaborative support to elevate ideas and drive innovation. Contribute at any stage of the creative process, approaching each task with an ego-free, team-oriented mindset. Co-lead creative brainstorming sessions to inspire the team and generate bold, strategic ideas that push boundaries. 
  • Presentation and Leadership: Confidence in presenting your creative product is mandatory. You must be able to present and defend creative concepts and strategies with rationale, clarity and passion — both internally and to clients. Additionally, you will inspire and mentor a team of creatives by sharing your expertise in creative strategy, providing guidance and fostering an environment of collaboration and growth, all while continuing to refine your own skills under senior leadership.  

Qualifications 

  • 3-5 years of experience in a creative agency or similar environment, with a strong focus on conceptual and strategic work. 
  • A portfolio that demonstrates big ideas, high-level campaign concepts and standout creative across digital and traditional channels. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in advertising, communications, marketing or a related field. 
  • Advanced proficiency in business platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite. Previous experience working in project management software like Workamajig is preferred.  
  • Strong technical aptitude paired with exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Strong conceptual and strategic abilities, with proven experience and processes in high-level ideation. 
  • Exceptional copywriting and storytelling skills across multiple formats and channels. 
  • The ability to research and navigate complex subject matter. This is crucial, as our client roster spans diverse industries and business verticals. 
  • A visionary mindset with the ability to inspire teams, challenge the status quo and push creative boundaries. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to sell ideas and inspire stakeholders. 
  • Confidence and experience being a client-facing presenter. 
  • Experience working on new business pitches, RFPs and high-stakes presentations. 
  • Collaborative spirit, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellence. 
  • A true desire to be both a mentor and a mentee — be ready to develop your skills under a CD/ACD and share your knowledge/tools with the copy team.
